Honolulu (KHON2) — Hawaii’s Peasant Eviction Moratorium ends on Friday, August 6th.

The landlord can initiate an eviction procedure for a tenant whose rent is at least four months late at that time.

When that notification is sent, another notification will be sent to one of the five community mediation centers throughout the state, which will schedule a meeting with the tenant within 15 days.

Authorities emphasized that tenants need to respond.

“If mediation is scheduled, the landlord cannot move out for 30 days. If they reach an agreement on ideal mediation, there is no eviction process.”
