Washington (AP) —A Californian had the first identified case of an Omicron variant of COVID-19 in the United States, US officials told The Associated Press Wednesday. It comes as scientists continue to study the risks posed by new strains of the virus.
At the end of last month, the Biden administration moved to limit travel from southern Africa, where variants were first identified and spread. Case clusters have also been identified in about 20 other countries. Officials were unable to publicly discuss the issue and spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity.
