Hawaii to drop COVID-19 test requirement for vaccinated travelers around July 4 weekend – Fresno, California

Fresno, California 2021-04-30 23:14:20 –

San Francisco-If you are fully vaccinated, you may not need to have a COVID-19 test before traveling to Hawaii this summer.

Lieutenant Josh Green said Hawaii plans to revise the rules for entering the state before and after the July 4th holiday. The exact date has not yet been set.

Starting May 11, Hawaii has relaxed restrictions on interisland travel to fully vaccinated people who have been vaccinated in Hawaii, Green said. This means that two weeks have passed since the second vaccination with Pfizer or Moderna, or two weeks after the single vaccination with Johnson & Johnson.

“The program will evolve and apply to the mainland,” Green said in July.

Later, what Green called “Phase 3”, Hawaii will reopen to foreign tourists. He did not specify a target date.

Relation: According to the CDC, cruises will resume in the United States by mid-July and 95% of passengers will be fully vaccinated.

Beginning in December 2020, travelers will be required to undergo a COVID-19 test 72 hours before departure and present evidence of negative results or be quarantined for 10 days upon arrival. According to Green, this “safe travel” program will reduce travel in COVID-19 cases by 88% in the state.

Those who do not want or cannot be vaccinated can be offered the option of proving a negative COVID-19 test or quarantine for 10 days on arrival. For example, a child under the age of 16 who is not yet eligible for the vaccine will need a negative test, even if his parents are vaccinated.

Hawaii expects to reach herd immunity around the weekend of July 4, based on the pace of vaccine deployment, Green said.

Currently, California and Hawaii are two of the safest states for COVID-19. They are the neck and neck with the fewest new cases per capita.

“The vaccine passport makes sense all over the world because we are safer and you are safer,” said the vice-governor.

Tourism is already at 65% of Hawaii’s normal level, he said, preparing for more trips during the peak summer season.

“In fact, in the year leading up to COVID, an incredible number of tourists visited and exceeded 10 million, but we love tourists,” Green said. .. “We are ready.”
