Venice, Florida — Cooper’s Hawk was rescued on Wednesday, October 9, when Catherine Katanakiss, a resident of Venice, was seen hanging from a tree.

Catherine Katanakiss says she saw the hawk while looking out the window.

“There are a lot of wild animals where I live. Looking at the hawk, I noticed that he was hanging upside down on his wings. The vine was wrapped around his wings.”- Katanakiss

I didn’t know what to do with Katanakiss, so I called the sheriff’s office. Soon, Stephanie, a volunteer at the Wildlife Center, was on the road.

Stephanie called William a tree climber and he came to help.

When William climbed the bird, it started to move.

“It just melted in William’s arms, so he knew he was being rescued.”- Katanakiss

Katanakiss says Taka was taken to a wildlife center in southwestern Florida.
