Portland, Oregon (KOIN) — Drivers, cyclists, jogging, and others who use the Hawthorne Bridge in Portland will have to find another route on Sunday as the structure is closed for maintenance.
The closure will take place from 6 am to 6 pm for the inspection and work of the drawbridge.
“The crew will perform maintenance work and inspect the trunnions that support the counterweight cables,” said a Multnomah County official. “This task requires the drawbridge to be opened frequently for long periods of time, so the bridge is closed for all users.”
TriMet buses, which normally use bridges, detour to Morrison Bridge during closure. Some alternative routes also include the Ross Island Bridge.
Multnomah County maintains the Hawthorne Bridge and five other Willametto River Bridges.
Authorities warned that heavy rains could reschedule work at a later date.
