Harrisburg (KDKA) – Governor Tom Wolf and Director of State Testing and Contact Tracing announced a new state COVID-19 testing strategy on Tuesday.

The Governor said the Pennsylvania Department of Health will expand its contract with AMI Expeditionary Healthcare and deploy five “community test strike teams” over the next 12 weeks.

“The strike team will provide inspection services to residents of 61 of the 67 counties that do not have their own county health department,” said Governor Wolf.

Starting Wednesday, he said, free tests will begin in four counties: Bedford, Mifflin, Tioga and Northampton. A fifth location will open in Butler County on Friday.

“The Ministry of Health will continue to develop tests based on the total number of confirmed cases per 100,000 people in the county and where they are currently occurring,” said Michael Huff, director of testing and contact tracing. I am. “Increased testing helps identify prevalence viruses and helps counties move forward.”

These teams then move to new locations each week to provide information about where they will be posted on the Health Department website.

“Our goal is to ensure that everyone who needs an exam in Pennsylvania will take the exam,” said Governor Wolf.

He said Pennsylvania has come a long way in expanding its testing capabilities. During the three months from March to May, the state conducted 67,000 COVID tests, and now the state can perform about the same number of tests in one day.

On these sites, tests are available daily from 9 am to 6 pm on Sundays, Huff said. No reservation required. Patients are “encouraged” to bring a photo ID or insurance card. Registration is completed on-site and the results will be delivered in 2-7 days, Huff said.

At each location, PCR tests are used on a first-come, first-served basis to test up to 450 patients daily.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health reported 5,676 new cases of coronavirus and 180 additional deaths.

On Monday, Secretary of Health Rachel Levin said he was “extremely concerned” about the impact of Thanksgiving on the state’s surge in COVID-19 cases.

“For now, November, December, January and February seem to be the peak of COVID-19 infections during this pandemic,” she said.
