Olympia, WA (AP) —As of Monday, anyone attending an outdoor event attending more than 500 people in Washington must wear a face cover regardless of COVID-19 vaccination status.
Governor Jay Inslee announced his mission last week. Outdoor events are considered to have a low risk of COVID-19 infection, but five outdoor Superspreader events have infected more than 500 people at concerts, trade fairs and rodeos throughout Washington.
The state’s hospitalization rate is at its highest level ever during a pandemic, imposing an outdoor mask obligation.
The Washington State Department of Health encourages hospitals to “limit and reduce selective treatment” in order to maintain sufficient capacity.
