Omaha, Nebraska (KMTV) —Thanksgiving is imminent. A local non-profit organization has partnered with Hy-Vee to allow families in need here in the Metro to enjoy Thanksgiving dinners.
According to a release from the Heartland Hope Mission, Hy-Vee and Hy-Vee are hosting the mission’s largest food drive event, Stuff-A-Truck, until Sunday.
Shoppers at Hy-Vee grocery stores in the Omaha region can donate $ 5 or $ 10 to purchase pre-packaged food bags to help their efforts.
The Heartland Hope Mission states: Last year, Stuff-A-Truck raised over $ 55,000 in donations. The Heartland Hope Mission was able to provide a Thanksgiving pantry. The pantry included a glass of turkey and all sides, and nearly 6,000 people were provided with fixtures to prepare their meals at home. The groceries donated at this event will be used to provide holiday meals to families who rely on our pantry to earn income. Food will be distributed to families in need at the Heartland Hope Mission South Omaha and Millard locations. “
“This food drive is important because it provides the food needed to distribute the Thanksgiving pantry. We look forward to serving more families this year as food costs rise,” Heartland said. Hope Mission Pastor and CEO Chelsea Salifou said.
At Council Bluffs, donations are sent to Mika House.
