Denver (KDVR) —The ski season has officially begun in Colorado. Wolf Creek Opening Saturday, October 16th, Arapa Ho Basin Opening Sunday, October 17th.

A few rounds of decent snowfall last week helped these two ski areas open in mid-October this year. It took the last few days of October to open the first ski resort of the season in 2020.

In the future, both Labrand and Keystone will open soon, probably within the next few weeks. After that, many ski areas throughout the state will open in mid-November.

When does the Colorado ski area usually open during the season?

Looking back over the last few years, Wolf Creek has won “Race to Open” in three of the last five years. Arapa Ho Basin has won the other two. The first ski resorts of the year usually open in mid-October, but may be in late October if the weather is not good.

In the future, the next chance of snowfall in the mountains is expected to be this Tuesday, for a total of 1-5 inches.

Dry weather will continue after Tuesday, weekends will continue, and mountain snow is likely to fall next week.
