(NEXSTAR) – With the release of iOS 15 on Monday, Apple announced new FaceTime features. This will make all family video calls in 2020 even more interesting. The new feature is called SharePlay.

Basically, SharePlay allows you to do even more during FaceTime calls. You can stream movies as a group or listen to songs together. Anyone on the call can pause the movie or rewind the song.

Currently, the SharePlay feature works on Apple TV and Apple Music. Later this year, Apple said SharePlay will be compatible with the following streaming services: Disney +, Hulu, HBO Max, NBA, Twitch, TikTok, MasterClass, ESPN +, Paramount +, PlutoTV.

You can also share your screen with FaceTime, just as you would with Zoom from your computer. With screen sharing, Apple says you can view photos of friends and family on your last vacation, or view a list of apartments under consideration.

Apple has also announced several other improvements to FaceTime. Soon, everyone talking will be able to see it in a grid view. You can also use “portrait mode” to focus on the camera and blur the background during a call. Similarly, you have the option of separating the audio from background noise. If important, you can also allow the background noise to be picked up by the microphone. This is useful, for example, for virtual music lessons.

With iOS 15, anyone, even Android users, can be invited to FaceTime calls.
