Corpus Christi, Texas — Cybercriminals have benefited from unsuspecting victims using phishing attacks, malware, and ransomware for over a decade.
October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, a time for businesses and businesses across the United States to recognize and address potential cybersecurity vulnerabilities.
Katie Galan of Better Business Bureau explains how the problem affects consumers.
“That is, it’s Cybersecurity Month, and it’s very important for consumers to be aware of all the ways scammers try to use us,” Galan said. “What’s more worrisome than ever is that COVID-19 helps with that. As we enter the holiday season, everything tends to continue.
“There are a few things you should be aware of about the one-sided links you may receive. You may have received it by text message or email, but you may be a stranger. We always advise. Don’t click on those links. “
Galan also explained how to prevent consumers from being the victims of cybercriminals.
“The best way is not to click on these links,” she said. “The ads that the scammers do will pop up.
“If you don’t make your social media settings private and public, scammers will add what you’re looking at and your targets. It may look like it’s from a legitimate company, but it’s not. The best way is to go directly to the company’s website and see if the deal is still closed, without clicking on the pop-up ad. This is the best way. “
