Handshakes were also seen at the graduation ceremony

KOIN, Oregon — A year ago, a third-year high school student was robbed of a traditional graduation ceremony during a pandemic lockdown. Some schools, like Central Catholics, have a drive-by graduation ceremony.

But this year the situation is different.

The 2021 Central Catholic Class was celebrated at Hillsborough Stadium. At outdoor events, most people wore masks, but handshakes were also seen.

At Providence Park, Benson High School students sat together and walked across the stage at an outdoor ceremony.

Both teachers and students say it feels like a hopeful way to look to the future.

“It’s just a little sweet because I couldn’t do it last year,” said Benson’s teacher Jessica Marchison. “We did a drive-through last year and did our best to see all the kids, but it’s great to have a place to go out to see the kids in caps and gowns. is.”

School graduation continues throughout the region.
