Highlights of 2020: PPE Manufacturing, NTTM, Kasturi Cotton

India has become the second largest manufacturer of personal protective equipment (PPE) in the world, with approval of the National Technology Textile Mission (NTTM) with a total spending of 148 billion rupees and the launch of the brand name and logo “Kasturi Cotton India”. Highlights of the year-end 2020 review released by the Ministry of Textiles of the Government of India.

“India will become the second largest PPE maker in the world with the development of a new industry of 700 billion rupees, where 1100 PPE makers peak at 45,000 rupees per day,” the ministry said in a year-end review.

In 2020, anti-dumping tariffs on refined terephthalic acid (PTA) and acrylic fibers were also eliminated.

They were installed in the government’s eMarketplace (GeM) to provide a wider market for handwoven machines / craftsmen / producers.

“The textile industry occupies an important position in Japan. India’s textile sector is the sixth largest textile and apparel exporter in the world. Its share in commercial exports is 12%, second only to agriculture. It’s a big job creator, “said the review.
