Honolulu (KHON2) — On Thanksgiving Day, a Honolulu firefighter rescued an injured hiker and his dog from Kailua’s Lanikai Pillbox Trail.

The Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 9:08 am on Thursday, November 25, about an injured 22-year-old male resident in the first pillbox on the trail with his dog.

The firefighters arrived at the scene at 9:15 am. A 22-year-old woman had an ankle injury and had to be airlifted to the landing zone of Lanikai Community Park via HFD’s Air1 rescue helicopter.

According to HFD, male patient care was transferred to Honolulu EMS around 9:49 am. Firefighters also took the male dog off the trail and took him to a waiting friend.
