(Tampa, Florida) – Hillsborough Community College’s Surgical Technology Program received its first accreditation from the United Nations Medical Education Program Accreditation Board (CAAHEP), based on the recommendations of the Accreditation Review Council for Education in Surgical Technology and Surgical Assistance. (ARC / STSA).

“I am thrilled to have made such achievements for HCC and myself. The efforts and determination have been rewarded,” said Kathy Sandmoen, HCC’s Surgical Technology Program Manager.

“The original goal of this new program was to enable the first cohort to graduate from the accredited AS Surgical Technology Program,” said Dr. Leif Penrose, Director of Health Sciences at HCC.

The program will begin in the fall of 2020 and the first cohort will graduate on December 4, 2021. The second cohort will begin this fall and the third cohort will begin in the spring of 2022 in the next semester.

With recent accreditation, continued support from university clinical partners and a newly refurbished educational space, the Surgical Technology Program will become another powerful program in the HCC Health Sciences Division.

Hillsborough Community College serves more than 42,000 students annually on five campuses throughout Tampa Bay. The college is accredited by the College Committee of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. See hccfl.edu for more information.
