Corpus Christi, Texas — Corpus Christi City Hall is undergoing a makeover to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.
Celebration decorations are displayed throughout the city hall. Rotunda has a traditional party flag over 800 feet, also known as the Papel Picado.
According to Mayor Paulette Guajard, it is important to embrace all cultures.
Guajardo will read a special declaration on Hispanic Heritage Month at the City Council on Tuesday. That’s what she says she hasn’t been doing for more than 10 years.
“Our research found that Hispanic Heritage Month had not been declared by the council for the past 15 years,” said Guajardo. “It makes this moment and tomorrow [Tuesday] Morning is a very proud moment. My mother is from Mexico because I accept my heritage and the culture and traditions are very special to me. “
Guajard added that 70 percent of city officials are Hispanic. The council meeting on Tuesday begins at 11:30 am.
