Homeowners Association in Virginia Bans 2 Boys From Swimming Pool – NBC4 Washington – Washington, District of Columbia

The Virginia Homeowners Association has punished two boys by banning them from the community pool.

Bristow’s Kingsbrooke HOA issued a trespassing order in October about the role of the boys who damaged the library.

The boys, then 11 and 13, were with a third child who smashed the library door and broke it. The book was thrown into the woods.

Police were called but not charged.

Jon Gadbois said his son had been grounded for three weeks and wrote an apology letter. Both families said they wanted the boys to be able to provide some kind of community service to make up for it.

“We agreed that the children had to do community service in our neighborhood,” said Joni Blue, the mother of one of the boys.

Instead, the HOA Board issued a trespassing order in November.

Gadoboa’s son, who has been on the swimming team since the age of four, has been locked out of Kingsbrook’s pools and public areas until at least May 2022. The other child is locked out until his 18th birthday.

“Imagine you can’t go to the pool and the park for seven years of your life,” Blue said. “It’s very difficult. It’s going to be a tough summer.”

The Gadbois family asked the board to reconsider the decision, but after a recent meeting it was found that the board upheld the original penalties.

“I don’t think HOA should have that much authority,” Gadbois said. “I don’t think they should be judges’ juries or executioners. I don’t think it’s their job.”

The HOA issued a statement stating: “The Board of Directors is responsible for maintaining and preserving the property of the Society for the benefit of all members and residents. The Board of Directors is responsible for the rights and responsibilities of all members of the Society. We are responsible for taking all necessary and appropriate actions to maintain our profits. “

The boy’s parents are seeking legal action.

Both families were also charged $ 125 for damage to the library and books.
