Holly County, South Carolina (WBTW) — The Holly County Council passed the third final reading of Tydrans Health’s new Carolina Bayes Hospital on Tuesday, with no public or council discussion, but Conway. The opposite happened at the hospital’s second reading and hearing proposed by the Medical Center.
International Drive Hospital, proposed by Conway Medical Center, has 50 beds and offers all services. Some neighbors said it was to build a hospital in the area, but many said the area manages burns, wetland mitigation banks, floods and wildlife.
“Development on this site could change the hydrology of the region and lead to additional floods on the International Drive,” said a resident of the Coastal Conservation League. “Just having a building there can increase floods.”
“I know that when we were going to the hospital, we were told that we might not care about woodpeckers,” said the keeper of the Wakkamau River. “I’m still going to care and I don’t think it’s mutually exclusive. I think we can care for both.”
Members of the council also expressed concern, but said they had worked with the Conway Medical Center to address all concerns.
“We don’t allow-the Conway Medical Center doesn’t interfere with our mitigation plans, and they don’t interfere with our open-burning plans-it doesn’t happen,” said district councilor Johnny Vot. 8. “We solved all of this through a development agreement. We met people on the farm who were concerned that the building was too close.”
“They are building this hospital to ensure that these issues are addressed,” said Bill Howard, District 2 Councilor.
The plan for the new Conway Medical Center Hospital will move on to the third reading.
At the meeting on Tuesday, the council also passed a second reading and hearing to adopt the revised flood damage prevention standards. By passing, it will approve better flood protection measures.
The council also states that “requesting payment of impact fees for parks and recreational facilities, public safety facilities, transportation facilities, solid waste facilities, and stormwater facilities to offset the proportional demand for these public facilities”. Passed the second reading of the law. Created by new development. “
