Rezoning request at Conway’s Long Avenue Extension
According to planning committee documents, current zoning is approved for 87 detached homes with two access points. The access points will be Rush Road and Long Avenue Extension.
This request is a revised plan to add a total of 100 detached houses of 13 units.
“Here on Long Avenue, there are many issues with access and loss of access,” said O’Leary.
Rezoning request at Conway Highway 544 and Pace Circle
This request will install 161 RV sites on Conway’s Highway 544 and Pace Circle. Adjacent to Black’s Tire Service and Bojangles.
According to the planning committee documents, most of the site is highlands and not within the regulated floodplain, but according to the map, O’Leary said the site is in a wetland.
“By the way, even with the Flood Protection Ordinance, which is one of the best flood protection measures in the country, we are concerned about flooding of the surrounding infrastructure,” O’Leary said.
Rezoning request on Highway 707 near Salem Road and the Wakkamau River
This rezoning request could bring nearly 4,000 homes to Highway 707 near St. James High School. Part of the project is on the corner of Salem Road and Highway 707.
According to planning committee documents,’applicants are requesting that 706.2 acres of the parent area be rezoned from commercial forestry to planned development areas. The access point is SC707, which is a connection to Freewoods Road.
Residents who attended the Zoom meeting on Monday night said, “This is big,” and “I can’t even wrap my head in the size of this project.”
From 4 pm to 6 pm on December 8th, there will be a community meeting at the South Strand Recreation Center to discuss the project.
O’Leary encouraged residents to attend council meetings or contact planning committee staff or members of the Holly County Council to express their concerns.
