Franklin, TN (WKRN)-Franklin firefighters had to rescue a horse that had fallen and was trapped in a ditch on Saturday afternoon.

Franklin’s fire brigade was sent to a farm in Long Lane on Saturday after 4 pm after the owner discovered that a horse had fallen into a meadow ditch.

According to Franklin Chief of Fire, Jonathan Jenkins, the horse could not stand sideways. The on-site crew estimated that the groove was about 3-4 feet deep.

Firefighters at the scene placed an uninflated airbag under the horse and slowly inflated it to allow the horse to stand and exit the ditch on its own.

It is unknown how long the horse was trapped in the ditch before Franklin Fire arrived.

Captain Jonathan Jenkins said the veterinarian evaluated the horse and suffered minor cuts and bruises, but no serious injuries.
