Hospitals ramp up hiring to improve staffing shortages – Tucson, Arizona

Tucson, Arizona 2021-10-27 22:11:23 –

Tucson, Arizona (KGUN) — A local hospital is looking for new employees due to an ongoing shortage of nurses in Arizona. State-wide employers are increasing recruitment to bring Arizonas back into the workforce, especially in health care.

Michelle Wilson, HR Generalist at St. Mary’s Hospital, said:

Hospitals needed more nurses and paramedics than ever last year. However, US Labor Department data show that Arizona’s health care workers have declined significantly during the pandemic.

“We are hiring and welcoming people to the door. This is great, but we need more nurses and the positions we need throughout the hospital.”

Healthcare workers are now returning to the hospital. Employees at St. Mary’s Hospital say this is a result of lower COVID numbers and increased recruitment efforts.

Monica Vargas-Mahar, Market CEO of Carondelet Health Network, said:

Tucson’s Carondelet Health Network, which includes St Mary’s Hospital, St. Joseph Hospital, Marana Hospital, and Holy Cross Hospital, has recently promoted job fairs and employee referrals. A few weeks ago, they also started a “walk-in Wednesday.”

“The idea of’Walk in Waters’ is that any interested candidate can come and visit our team. We have an on-the-spot interview and an on-the-spot offer. I did, “said Vargas-Mahar.

Dozens of applicants gathered on “Walk-in Wednesday”. Human resources say they have already hired two people.

The walk-in Wednesday recruitment event will be held at the following locations until December 22nd:

Karon Delet St. Joseph Hospital
Wednesday from 10am to 1pm
350 N. Wilmot Road, Tucson

Caron Delet St. Mary’s Hospital and Marana Hospital

1601 W. St. Mary’s Road, Tucson

Carondelet Holy Cross Hospital
