Wichita, Kansas 2021-06-10 06:58:51 –
The hottest days are here and it is very important that we all continue to hydrate. The dew point, which begins the day in the 1960s and 70s, feels sticky and sultry this morning.
Moisture can be seen in areas of western Kansas where heavy fog recommendations have been issued.
Only one of our counties (Kay, OK) has received a heat recommendation, but everyone experiences a repressive combination of heat and humidity.
The highs are in the 90’s, but when humidity is taken into account, it feels like the 90’s to 100’s. The hottest hours of the day are in the afternoons and evenings.
The potential for storms should also be monitored, even if the conditions are fairly dry. There is a slight chance of a shower or storm this morning through the sunrise between western and central Kansas.
Tonight’s chance comes with the approaching cold front. It catches the southern end of a strong storm further north. Strong to heavy storms can occur around the Kansas-Nebraska line. The main threats are large hail and damaging winds. The threat of an isolated tornado lies further north of Nebraska.
This stormy opportunity to the north lasts until Friday morning. Northwestern Kansas begins to cool a bit as lows fall in the 1950s. From the 1960s to the 1970s, the front of the front was still humid.
If the front is wiped out, a storm could occur south of Wichita until Friday. The potential for strong storms, where gusts can occur, shifts east and includes several counties in central Kansas. It is necessary to monitor the possibility of another new storm between central and eastern Kansas in the afternoon and evening.
The humidity is not so high on weekends, but it is still noticeable. Highs will still be warm in the 80’s and 90’s.
The possibility of a storm is mainly west on weekends. Saturdays appear to be dry until evening and overnight. Regional highs will fall back to the seasonal 80’s by early next week. In central Kansas, when this happens on Monday, you need to be aware of showers and storms.
