The House Select Commission, tasked with investigating the cause of the January 6 riots at the US Capitol, held its first hearing on Tuesday and several law enforcement officers faced direct violence from rioters. We will welcome the officials.
The hearing on Tuesday will feature testimony from two DC Metropolitan police officers (Daniel Hodges and Michael Fanone) and two Capitol police officers (Officers Harry Dan and Sgt). Aquilino Gonell.
Tuesday’s testimony is expected to include some unpublished videos of the January 6 attack. Sources told CNN that Tuesday’s hearings would sometimes be “very vivid.”
The House Select Commission is moving forward primarily without Republican support. The nine-member committee has only two members of the Republican Party, Liz Cheney of R-Wyoming and Adam Kinzinger of R-Illinois. Both were one of the few Republicans who voted to impeach President Donald Trump’s actions on January 6.
House Republican leader Kevin McCarthy said last week that Republicans would not join the elective committee after Chairman Nancy Pelosi denied his request to appoint two Republicans to the committee. Both Jordan and the bank voted on January 6 to overturn the outcome of the post-riot 2020 elections.
McCarthy will hold a press conference before the Commission’s hearing at 8 am Eastern Standard Time.
The House Democratic Party’s decision to proceed with its own investigation on January 6 was made after the Senate Republicans cut off efforts to establish a September 11-style bicameral and bipartisan investigation earlier this year. Only done.
The House Select Committee will begin its first hearing on Tuesday at 9:30 am EST.
