How moving turned into a nightmare for a Broken Arrow woman – Tulsa, Oklahoma

Tulsa, Oklahoma 2021-10-15 13:00:52 –

Broken Arrow, Oklahoma — A family in Minnesota dreamed of moving to Oklahoma, but the move turned into a nightmare.

She moved from Minneapolis to Broken Arrow a few weeks ago, but most of the rooms in Yavan’s new home are bare.

“I’m very angry, I can’t sleep, I can’t work,” Ya told 2News Oklahoma Problem Solvers.

Ya and her daughter escaped the winter in Minnesota, approached relatives and moved to Oklahoma to open day care.

“I’m good at kids. I love kids. I’ve been doing it for 17 years.”

When moving, Ya searched for a moving company online and came across a prestigious van line.

Ya says he called and emailed a contract with a $ 2,583 quote and a $ 1,250 deposit.

However, in mid-August a truck with another company name was used to load her luggage.

They were two weeks late, Ya tells us, and the cost of the move quickly jumped to $ 4,700.

“I said I disagree, it’s too much I can’t pay, but they said we already have yours on our truck, what you tell us now Do you want me to do it? “

Feeling cornered, Ya agreed to pay an additional $ 1720 on the check.

But when the mover finally arrived at Broken Arrow’s house on Labor Day, Ya said he demanded a final payment of just over $ 1,700 before the mover opened the truck door.

Ya showed them a check for that amount, as requested a few weeks ago.

“They said we didn’t want cashier checks, only postal money orders. I said that wasn’t what I was told.”

And since it was Worker’s Day, Ya had to wait until the next day to go to the post office to get those money orders.

But when the mover came back, Ya said he was said to be now borrowing another $ 800 due to an overnight delay.

“An additional $ 800 a night, it’s ridiculous, it’s not included in the deal.”

She says her life refused to pay that $ 800, even though her livelihood seemed to be held hostage on the truck.

Family photos, life insurance policies, items to open her day care.

“What can I do now? I spoke to my two ministers in the church, and we pray that God will work in their hearts and bring mine. . “

For now, Ya doesn’t know where his belongings are. We contacted the moving company after she called the problem solver. I will let you know.

Meanwhile, some warning signs to watch out for when hiring a mover. Be careful if they refuse to make a face-to-face home cost quote, and be aware that it looks too good for a true low-priced quote.

There are some additional things to consider when searching for a mover.

  • Experts say you first decide what you need. Will the mover leave the house to move all the luggage together, or do you need the help of some heavy objects?
  • to shop. Prices vary greatly. Try to get a quote from 3-5.
  • Be sure to get it all in writing and read more about additional services and add-ons.
  • Look beyond the price. The cheapest mover may be the best for you, but price shouldn’t be the only criterion.
  • Check out the reviews and check on websites such as Better Business Bureau.

And those items are just a few of the things you need to know.

Here are 10 important questions.
