Sacramento (CBS13) — Don’t be surprised! The long-term closure of Highway 99 is scheduled to begin on Friday night.
Here’s a breakdown of the closures and how to avoid them.
The closure will begin at 8 pm on Friday, says Caltrans. The highway is not scheduled to reopen until 4 am on Wednesday, June 16th.

This work means that the next lamp will also be closed.

The crew will replace the deck of the SR-99’s dilapidated bridge on 21st Avenue. Traffic changes and lane reductions lasted six months, so Caltrans says it has decided to close 99 hours to complete the work as soon as possible.
How to avoid it
Drivers must use Interstate 5 or the road surface. Of course, the sooner you switch to I-5, the better.
Drivers heading from San Joaquin County to Highway 99 must switch to I-5 using Highway 4 / Crosstown Freeway or switch to I-5 northbound using Highway 12.
The road surface passing through southern Sacramento is expected to have more traffic than usual.
Sacramento RT also offers a free light rail service during the closure period. Riders must present the leaflet at the following link. https://www.sacrt.com/apps/wp-content/uploads/FixSac99-Free-Ride-Flyer.pdf.
