Kapolei (KHON2) – Many employees are urging them to return to the office after working from home for over a year.
This means that the pet will stay home alone for extended periods of time, which some dog trainers say is increasing anxiety about pet separation.
“If you cook, clean and have children, you can teach your dog to be in a kennel away from you,” said Maria Hagood.
Hagood has been a dog trainer in Hawaii for 15 years. She said over the past few months her phone was very busy with people asking her how to deal with pet separation anxiety.
“Often people spend 24/7 with their fur friends. That’s great. I’m very attached to dogs,” Hagood said.
According to Hagood, to help your animal’s separation anxiety, give them space to call themselves, along with a crate that trains them in small amounts to make them comfortable to be alone. Best to give.
With some patience and repetition, Hagood says animals can grow out of separation anxiety and are willing to wait for their owners to return from work.
