Labour appoints Angela Rayner levelling-up minister in party reshuffle

Angela Rayner, Labour’s deputy leader, has been appointed as shadow secretary for levelling up, housing and communities.

“Keir [Starmer] is delighted that Angela has accepted this important role, in addition she will continue to be the strategic lead on Labour’s new deal for working people,” a spokesperson said.

Rayner’s other title has also been tweaked from “shadow first secretary of state” to “shadow deputy prime minister” in Starmer’s first reshuffle since November 2021. 

Lisa Nandy, who stood for the leadership in 2020, was the previous shadow levelling-up secretary. 

It is not yet clear who will take on Rayner’s previous job as shadow Cabinet Office secretary.
