Kansas City, Missouri — The best time of the year. You can see the Christmas tree standing up, the lights on display, and the joy spreading throughout the window display wherever you go.

As you step into Steve Brandon’s house, Christmas music welcomes guests at your doorstep.

Brandon says it’s festive time.

The veteran served in the Marine Corps for four years and was passionate about music shows.

“I have a little bit of everything,” Brandon said.

His walls are filled with all kinds of music, and one of the top columns is dedicated exclusively to Christmas music.

It’s a festive time at the Brandon family, but he made a considerable trip.

Brandon’s wife said, “Steve had a really rough four years.” “With his sepsis, infections, three or four surgeries, he has no hips and has spacers. It was a considerable journey.”

That is one of the reasons he and his wife decided to have a caregiver through the home instead. This organization supports the elderly and veterans. And during the holiday season, the annual “Let’s become Santa to our seniors.“”

“Home Insted contacts several elderly living communities and organizations each time the season begins,” said Page Wheeler, Home Insted’s Operations Director. “And they provide us with a wish list for some of their underprivileged seniors.”

“It’s as easy as stopping by, grabbing a decoration from a tree and fulfilling those wishes,” Wheeler said.

Last year, Brandon received blankets, sweaters and several other items.

“I like gifts,” Brandon said with a smile.

That’s the little gesture he says.

“It’s always a surprise,” Brandon said. “It’s also a bump on a particular day.”

Home Insted is a global organization. Around the world, Be A Santa to A Senior has provided more than 2 million gifts to 750,000 seniors. Locally, we are offering gifts to more than 200 seniors and we plan to do the same this year.

To “Become a Senior Santa,” head to the Livingstone / Home Insted Senior Center at 233 Main Street at Lee’s Summit. There, you can choose a wishlist decoration from the tree, buy items and return them to the building. At the building, Home Insted will later deliver the item to the elderly.

The deadline is December 17th.
