HORRY COUNTY — Horry County Telephone Cooperative is expected to receive approximately $ 10 million in federal funding to help establish broadband in regions where there is insufficient access to high-speed Internet.
The funding will be provided as part of a large $ 167 million investment from the United States Department of Agriculture to deploy fiber-to-the-premise broadband services in rural South Carolina.
The funded service area includes 2,889 households, 11 educational facilities, and three important community facilities spanning 184.27 square miles.
The investment announced today is $ 550 Million Parliament Allotted to Round 2 of ReConnect Program (PDF, 3.8 MB), and other funding available in the program since 2018. USDA will begin applying for third round program funding in the coming weeks.
These investments will benefit rural people in Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Georgia, Missouri, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah and Virginia.
