Human bones found in building on University of California, Berkeley campus

A human skeleton was found Tuesday in a disused building on the campus of the University of California, Berkeley, officials said.

It is unknown how many years the remains were stored in the closed building on Clarke Carr Campus, a residential hall and event space about 1 mile (1.6km) from the main campus.

There are no notable cases of missing persons from the Berkeley campus community, according to a statement. The building has been “disused for many years”.

An Alameda County coroner will determine the cause of death.

An unidentified person who worked in the area told KTVU He saw a lot of police activity when the body was discovered.

“There was a construction site. They seemed to be demonstrating everything from this building, but suddenly it stopped,” he told the station. “The next day I saw the coroner come. There was a lot of police activity. I was very surprised.”

The university is located approximately 10 miles from downtown San Francisco.
