The “Prohibition from Our Body” rally gathered hundreds of people at the city hall the day after the monumental Supreme Court’s decision to overturn the Roe v. Wade case.
“We are not in complete democracy because women’s rights are being deprived little by little,” says Valerie Franco.
In a crowd that wants to protect their reproductive rights-3 generations of Franco women.
“It’s a huge setback for women’s rights,” says Samantha Lettera. “My mother didn’t necessarily oppose abortion, but she chose to have a child.”
A choice that her mother didn’t have.
“In those times you couldn’t get a legal abortion,” says Misty Franco. “If you wanted it, you had to go to people who didn’t even have medical care.”
Two college students behind the pro-life sign called on activists to change their minds.
“I was trying to have a one-on-one productive conversation with people. I haven’t had that experience yet,” says Solomon Verduzco.
Planned Parenthood, which helped host the event, had resources surrounding access to assisted reproductive technology services.
Roe v. Wade wasn’t the only topic discussed in the rally. Voting on ballots in November and education on voting were also available.
“We know that by voting, we are selecting like-minded people who believe in the same thing as us. The moment you think your vote is not important, you are that kind of power. I will lose, “said public relations Soccolo Santilan.
