“I’m scared now because the virus is completely crazy,” said parent Beth Clark.
“I’m a little worried about whether an incident will occur at school and how it will affect them all,” said another parent, Kristina Vogel.
The district follows strict guidelines enforced by the state’s Department of Public Education, and all students are required to wear masks indoors unless they can prove that they are fully vaccinated.
Some students and parents were not satisfied with the mask requirements.
“Don’t wear a mask so that you can act normally again,” said sixth-grade Keirin Hoffman.
“I think parents should be able to make that decision for their children,” said parent Alicia Garcia.
Others have said that mask requirements are needed.
“I’m a little used to masks now,” said 10th grade Makhaira Clark.
“I think masks are a good idea, at least for now,” said parent Angelica Garcia.
The Rio Rancho School Employees’ Union said parents are asking questions about mask requirements and are working on answers to those questions, but they want to focus on returning to face-to-face learning.
