Hutchinson, Kansas (KSNW) —A car parade passed through the Hutchinson district on Saturday morning, welcoming a man.

“We love you, Evans,” the Hutchinson High School softball team shouted as they passed by.

Hutchinson High School softball coach and business teacher Clayton Evans has returned. Evans suffered a severe spinal cord injury in July and underwent 100 days of rehabilitation.

“Now it’s like seeing my kids and my wife again and riding the heights of becoming a family again, but my family is also my colleague, player, student, teacher, colleague,” Evans said. Said. “It’s great to come back and feel very loved.”

Family-like communities welcomed Evans’s home with cheers, signs, and long-awaited hugs.

“He just tells him how much US $ 308 means to us for this community,” said Camille Eckhof, sister of Evans and organizer of the parade.

“It was so cool and it was hard not to cry. I wanted to keep it together,” Evans said. “I couldn’t show the softball players how their coach was crying.”

The players on his softball team were thrilled that the coach was back. “It’s really great because he’s like a father to all of us, we love him with all our hearts, and he loves us,” said Senior Kylersmith.

Evans said he was impressed with the support of the community. What’s happening, how I’ve been supported, and just thank you. “

With that support, he said he was ready to deal with any upcoming challenges.

“Life will be tough, there is no doubt about it. It can be harder than others, but I can’t give up on having to find a way.”

Evans will spend next month adapting to life at home. His plan is to return to Hutchinson High School on November 15th.
