Wichita, Kansas (KSNW) – The Federal Attorney’s Office in Kansas announced on Tuesday that a couple in Hutchinson, Kansas, were convicted of deceiving the federal government for their medical condition to receive benefits.
Addison Lewis, 41, and Brandy Lewis, 38, were each under probation for five years after pleaing one case of “government property theft.”
According to a news release, between 2013 and 2018, Addison Lewis falsely told the Department of Veterans Affairs that he had cortical visual impairment, and as a result, the Department of Veterans Affairs increased the amount of his profits. He admitted to misleading VA by exaggerating the symptoms and disorders caused by cortical visual blindness. Brandi Lewis deliberately provided VA with inaccurate information to support her husband’s false allegations.
The court ordered Lewis to pay $ 111,510 in damages to the Social Security Administration.
$ 131,972 for return to the Department of Veterans Affairs.
