Hyundai teases the Elantra N sports sedan

Hyundai shares the rigorously doctored image of the upcoming Elantra N and offers a taste of what its performance arm intends to do when not leased to other lineups of the company. Unlike N-Line products, which aim to support modest performance upgrades with visual decoration, the N model is basically as hardcore as a manufacturer can build a vehicle while trying to make a profit. is.

So far, the formula has only had enough time to produce a 275 horsepower Velostar N — a hatchback that appears to have been deliberately designed to dunk into the more reserved Volkswagen GTI. However, Elantra is rumored to have a personality similar to that of the Velostar powertrain, which makes it relatively unique to our market.

The only difference is that you are unlikely to get a 6-speed manual available for Velostar. Instead, it is expected to receive the same 8-speed dual clutch that will enter the Kona N (bottom) that will be dropped this fall. However, the manufacturer has not officially confirmed either, and may still surprise us. In the meantime, we’re happy to guarantee a brake upgrade (what you can clearly see in the teaser shot) and some mandatory suspension enhancements to make the sedan dance a little funky.

The Elantra N could arrive in the United States by the end of the year, or perhaps early 2022, creating a wilder spirit than everything else in this segment. It’s also a bit more flashy than the N-Line brothers, as you can see in the teaser photos, thanks to the addition of the N-series’ characteristic red trim. Other upgrades include larger 19-inch tires (wrapped in Pilot Sport 4S tires) and a unique spoiler. The exhaust port also looks a bit wider than standard. This may or may not cause the same cracking and barbling that high-strength belosters provide.

However, maintaining is a delicate balance.

Despite Hyundai’s proof that it knows exactly how to make an insanely fun car with the Velostar N, it’s not as practical (or subtle) as the GTI. German cars are clearly better at consuming highway miles with style and comfort, but Korean models are keen to make sure you’re having a good time from behind the steering wheel. is. Elantra may not benefit from being so flashy, at least where sales are considered. It’s almost natural that it will be more powerful than anything else in that segment. However, we still hope that Hyundai will be careful and decide to be as crazy as possible and will be forced to enhance the performance game while its rivals steal the spotlight.

Hyundai announced that Elantra N will appear at the New York International Auto Show in August. This means that it’s likely that a formal debut will be made soon. Stay tuned for more in the coming weeks.
