‘I hit her 4 times as hard as I could to shut her up,’ Sedgwick man pleads guilty to murder, sexual assault – Wichita, Kansas

Wichita, Kansas (KSNW) — A man from Sedgwick, Kansas, Murder and sexual assault of cohabiting partner.

44-year-old Craig Johnston Admit sin Reckless second murder, attempted rape, weighted detective sodomy, weighted sexual assault.

According to the affidavit, at around 9:18 am on October 23, 2020, Sedgwick County Dispatch received a call from Johnston that his wife was unresponsive in the basement of his home in northwestern Sedgwick County.

When law enforcement and EMS arrived at the scene, they found Amber Slancard, 40, in the basement with “serious” injuries to her head and face. She was taken to a local hospital where she died of an injury.

According to the affidavit, Johnston admitted that he had sexually assaulted Slancard while he was unconscious.

Johnston told the dispatcher that Slancard had fallen down the stairs of his house while he was going to smoke. He told her law enforcement agency that he wanted to take her to the hospital, but she didn’t want to take him.

According to the affidavit, Johnston told the detective that he and Slancard had visited the house of “Rosie”, who last saw her survival outside of Johnston. The detective spoke to Rosie, who told them that Johnston had “blacked out” and hit the slancard many times in her head.

After facing a recording of Rosie’s conversation, he admitted that he had hit his slancard against his head and face, saying, “I hit her four times as hard as I could to silence her.”

Johnston will rule on August 12.
