Las Vegas (KLAS) — A seven-year-old child, who remained unidentified for more than a week and was the victim of a murder, was found naked with multiple physical injuries, according to court documents obtained by Team I.

Samantha Moreno Rodriguez, 35, from San Jose, California, was accused of killing her son Liam Husted last month and leaving her body near a trail in Mountain Springs, western Las Vegas.

Police arrested Rodriguez last week in Denver, Colorado.

On May 28, hikers told police that an unidentified child was found eight feet off a dirt road near some bushes, according to court documents.

On June 1, Liam’s father, Nicholas Hasted, called police and said Rodriguez and his child had left the country eight days ago. Police said they didn’t want to bother Samantha, so they decided not to submit a report to record the kidnapping by their parents.

A week after Liam’s body was discovered, San Jose Police Department was warned by a friend of Rodriguez’s family. Rodriguez said he hadn’t seen his mother or son for more than two weeks. Police in Las Vegas have matched Liam’s photo with a photo on Nicholas Hasted’s Facebook page, the document said.

Police used a database of license plate readers to track Rodriguez’s cars from northern California to southern California and southern Nevada. The car was then tracked to Colorado on May 29th.

Nicholas Hasted provided the detective with an email account for him and Rodriguez, court documents said. Police have found an additional email account indicating that Rodriguez has booked a hotel in Colorado. A surveillance video on May 31 showed Rodriguez checking in to a hotel in the Denver area alone.

Police have collected Liam’s hoodies and pillows to match his DNA, records said.

Rodriguez, who remains in Denver, will appear in the district court at 8:30 am on Thursday, June 17, for an “advice hearing.”
