Las Vegas (KLAS) — Police have identified a man who urged the closure of Interstate 15 last week at what police called a highway barricade.

According to documents obtained by I-Team, the man stole the car and the passengers jumped out during the previous chase.

Police identified the driver as Angeliano Evangelista, 26, of Las Vegas.

Police closed both sides of the I-15 near the Silverado Ranch Overpass around 1 pm on Wednesday, July 21.

On July 3, police said Evangelista had confronted another man who was borrowing money from him. Evangelista pointed his gun at the man’s forehead, police wrote in an arrest report.

On July 21, police said they had received reports of stolen cars from car repair shops near Decatur Boulevard and Oakey Boulevard. One employee told police that the truck had been stolen when he saw a Ford F-250 pickup slowing down the Decatur.

That same day, a metro officer received a lowjack warning that the truck was at a casino on Paradise Road near Flamingo Road. Police then found a truck at a nearby gas station and saw a woman enter the passenger seat, the report said.

Metro police tracked the truck to the intersection of Hacienda and Eastern Avenue, backed by Henderson police. Henderson police officers reported that the truck was involved in “two ramming collisions” with a cruiser while chasing the truck, the report said.

At some point in Henderson, a female passenger jumped off the truck. She later told police that Evangelista had a gun, but it was later determined that the gun had been thrown out of the window.

Evangelista then boarded the northbound I-15, but later stopped on the southbound side of the freeway. Officials said they treated the case as a barricade because they believed that Evangelista was armed. They also said the report said Evangelista did not keep in touch with them and he was seen smoking in the truck.

About an hour later, Evangelista left the truck and was detained. No gun was found.

Evangelista was charged with deadly weapons, massive theft, and assault by possession or possession of a gun by a banned person.

The driver wrote that he was instructing social media to turn around on the freeway while the freeway was closed.
