Pittsburgh (KDKA) — It’s hard to believe that 20 years have passed since the opening of PNC Park.
When the Pittsburgh Pirates began their 20th anniversary season at the stadium, the man who led the person responsible for building it was rarely here to celebrate.

Kevin McClutch is not from Pittsburgh, but after taking over ownership of the pirates, he came to call the city his hometown. He oversaw the financing and construction of PNC Park, despite much opposition at the time.
“I hope PNC Park has withstood the test of time, has become Wrigley Field, has become Fenway Park, and has been here for 100 years,” said McClatchy. “It should withstand the test of time.”
McClatchy had a major heart attack six months ago while driving to the gym. He spent 37 hours on a ventilator.
McClutch: It was November 16th. Vulnerable plaque ruptured into an artery, causing a major heart attack. And I wasn’t with us for about 4 minutes. There was no oxygen. I was dead for 4 minutes, and they did it. The hospital team worked hard and used CPR and a lot of things. In four minutes, they moved the ticker again, and it was a blessing. It was a miracle for me.
McClutch: I’m lucky in two ways. Without oxygen for 4 minutes, bad things can happen to your heart. There were no problems with both heart and brain injuries. … I should be there for a while, hopefully. But you know, you look at life differently.
McClatchy plans to live like never before and advises others.
“Be sure to go to the doctor. Don’t ignore your health as you don’t know what’s there. These are so important that don’t skip the check.”
