Sacramento (CBS13) – Gregory Condos, an iconic Sacramento artist whose paintings in Delta and the region are recognized worldwide, died at the age of 97 after fighting the disease. His wife confirmed on Saturday.
The death of Condos, first reported by The Sacramento Bee, took less than a week than what would have been his 82nd birthday on April 2.
He moved to the area with his family in the 1920s and spent most of his life in Sacramento. Condos attended and taught at Sacramento City College, where the art gallery bears his name.
“We are heartbroken to hear that our beloved artist, teacher, longtime SCC supporter, and Gregory Condos, the origin of the name of our university’s art gallery, have died,” the university said on Saturday. “Our heart is directed at his family, friends, and the many people he has come into contact with in life.”
The Condos mural “River’s Edge” decorates Sacramento International Airport and can be seen in Terminal A.
This is a developing story. CBS13 updates this all night.
