One night, Corpus Christi literally took the nickname of “The Sparkling City of the Sea.”
Corpus Christi Harbor and Corpus Christi Downtown Management District hosted an illumination boat parade at Corpus Christi Marina on Saturday.
The parade, which is usually part of the Harbor Light Festival, served as an independent event this year after the festival was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The parade consisted of more than 12 boats filled with hundreds of lights, music and other Christmas decorations for the audience to enjoy.
Hundreds of people gathered on the seawall to watch the parade.
“We hope that the Illuminations Boat Parade will bring precious memories and reflect that Downtown Corpus Christi is a bright and cozy vacation destination for family celebrations,” said Alyssa, Executive Director of DMD. Valera Mason said in a news release.
Starting at the northern end of the Lawrence T-Head, the parade looped between the Lawrence Street T-Head and the Cooper Surrey L-Head. During the loop, the boat was evaluated by a group of judges as it made decisions on various awards.
“Community events like the Illuminations Boat Parade are critical to the recovery of the community from the isolated effects of COVID-19,” said Sean Strawbridge, CEO of Corpus Christi Port, in a news release. ..
