Impressive satellite imagery captures Mount Vesuvius through a hole in the clouds

One of the most dangerous in the world VolcanoMount Vesuvius appears to be “peeking” into the sky through the eerie circular holes in the clouds of this striking satellite imagery.

An operational Land Imager on board the Landsat-8 satellite took the picture. This photo was released on January 10th. NASA Earth Observatory.. The caldera at the top of the volcano (a large bowl-like depression formed when the volcano erupts and collapses) is clearly visible in the new image. Also, part of the large mountain ridge to the north is the wreckage of Mount Somma.An ancient volcano that was once in the same place Mount VesuviusBefore the new volcanic cone grows from its center.
