The downtown streets of Washington, DC were quiet on Saturday afternoon. Only three days after a swarm of supporters of President Donald Trump raided the US Capitol.

Black Ribs Matter Plaza, the hub of protests since the summer, has had few demonstrators since it closed earlier in the week.

The few days of election protests that took place before the event on Wednesday calmed me down.

Curious spectators strolled through the square in the presence of light police, as a handful of demonstrators demanded the expulsion of Trump from the White House.

“He must be dismissed, impeached, and he is using the power of the office to destroy everything we represent together, so he is from the office. Must be dismissed, “said Rev. William Lamar IV of the Metropolitan AME Church.

In December, members of the right-wing Proud Boys militant group removed and destroyed BLM signs from two downtown churches, including Lamar Church on Fifteenth Avenue and M Street in the Northwest. Since then, the church has filed proceedings against a group of militants for damaging its property.

“The Proud Boys came to our yard and dropped the replaced Black Lives Matter sign,” Lamar said.

Lafayette Square remains blocked by a tall security fence. The White House’s security boundaries have expanded with the closure of H Street on the north side of the square.
