Colorado Springs, Colorado 2022-05-15 16:04:53 –

Cripple Creek, Colorado — Rocky Mountain Complex Incident Management Team 1 (CIMT1) commanded Sunday morning in response to a burning Hyperk fire just west of Cripple Creek. Leadership changes bring new logistical support and resources to fire response.

The fire was last measured on Saturday at 9 pm with an estimated 1,173 acres and 10 percent containment. The structure is undamaged. Hundreds of homes in the area have been ordered to evacuate or are in pre-evacuation condition.

Incident Commander Dandalas reports that fire operations to secure an indirect fire line and the wind that drove the fire led to the spread of the fire on Saturday.

The burn area is mostly surrounded by Hyper Claude in the west and Four Mile Creek in the east.

Three departments of firefighters are working to contain the fire. Division A firefighters are working to clear the heat source and secure the northwestern end of the fire. People in Division M use fire trucks and bulldozers to patrol and secure existing fire lines at the southern and southwestern ends of the fire.

Division Z firefighters are looking for an opportunity to make a direct aerial attack on the eastern edge of the fire.

The CIMT1 team will have access to five helicopters and two aerial attack platforms to support aerial observations and bucket drops.

Humidity in the area has recovered slightly and is projected to reach 8-13%. Forecasts could be an afternoon thunderstorm, which could cause gusts and erratic winds.

Forced evacuation remains effective in the Lakemoor Subdivision, Cripple Creek Ranchs, and Mt. Pisgah areas.

Residents of Ryumon Iwayama Mesa, Monarch, and Lost Canyon still have pre-evacuation notices. County Highway 11 is closed between MilePost 3 and County Highway 112.

Woodland Park High School shelters remain open for residents in need of shelters. Livestock can be taken to the Cripple Creek Fairground.
