On average, men die five years earlier than women.

As part of the “Ask the Expert” series Bon Secours St. Francis7NEWS Anchor Taylor Murray talked with a physician about regular screening for men who can help them live longer.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, men in the United States have an average life expectancy of about 76 years, while women have an average life expectancy of 81 years.

In fact, it is a global trend for women to live more than men.

However, health experts say that regular preventive medical visits can help men live longer.

“Adult men, like women, need to have a colonoscopy at age 45. They can also have a so-called PSA screening, which has a prostate-specific antigen and checks for benign prostatic hyperplasia.” Dr. Grnak said.

Dr. Grnak says he does not hesitate to schedule a PSA screening if he has symptoms such as difficulty urinating, frequent urination, or waking up in the middle of the night due to the use of the toilet.

Having a history of tobacco use means that you need to be screened for another type of cancer …

“A man who has smoked in the past or is now smoking at age 55 should have a CT scan of his chest to look for lung cancer.”

As men grow older, testosterone levels and androgens begin to decline.

Your doctor can check these levels on your annual appointment.

There are also things that men can do to maintain their health outside the doctor’s office.

“I think it’s just a healthy diet and a lot of exercise,” Dr. Grnak said.

According to the present “Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans”Every week, adults require 150 minutes of moderate intensity physical activity and 2 days of strength-building activity.
