Des Moines, Iowa (AP) — Public health officials in Iowa say they have identified the third coronavirus variant in Iowa.

The Iowa Public Health Service said Tuesday that two variants were identified in Jefferson County, southeastern Iowa.

The agency says the first strains found in Europe and Brazil are also circulating in Iowa and recommends vaccination of Iowa to prevent the spread of the virus.

Interest in vaccination has slowed in Iowa, and the state has reduced 71% of the COVID-19 vaccine supply it may receive next week. Almost 36% of Iowa’s population is fully vaccinated, making it the 14th largest state in the country.
