Corpus Christi, Texas — A 6-month-old baby is in critical condition at Driscor Children’s Hospital after being beaten by a dog late on the night of July 4.

The dog is known as the Pitbull Mix and is currently quarantined by Animal Care Services. The baby suffered a severe head injury and needed surgery.

It happened at Crestview Drive’s house off the airline road after 10 pm on Sunday night. The child of the visiting family was attacked by the host dog.

ACS was called in to assist and detain the dog. It is currently being held to make sure there is no rabies.

“Usually 10 days from the day of the bite, and the minimum time for rabies to develop is 10 days, so the animals are quarantined,” said Joel Skidmore of ACS.

Coming to 3News at 10 pm, ACS will tell you more about what families can do to prevent their children from being bitten by their pets.
