Augusta, Kansas (KSNW) — Mustard seedAugusta’s restaurant has been open for over a year due to inflation, but is closed.

Shane Scott, owner of mustard seeds, said:

Inflation has forced owners of many restaurants like Scott to make tough decisions.

“We can choose to either eat the cost or pass it on to the consumer,” Scott said. “And after a while, soups and sandwiches will be enough for consumers to pay.”

It’s a battle against what he calls a “three-headed monster.”

“It’s inflation, the supply chain, and the labor shortage. Today, we have to pay extra to get the workforce,” Scott said.

Soaring gas prices are also pushing up costs.

“Gas prices really hurt my food costs and make everything more expensive to me,” Scott said.

And with no end in sight — Scott says, “We have to make the right decision for us and we don’t know when this will end.”

Mustard seeds will be closed forever on Friday.
