The Honolulu Fire Department today airlifted an injured 28-year-old man hiking the Waimano Trail in Pearl City.
HFD received a 911 call at 1:39 pm and responded in five units with 16 staff. The first unit arrived at 1:54 pm. The landing zone was secured in the open field of Pearl City High School.
A firefighter used GPS from the cell phone of an injured male friend to locate him and hiked along the trail to a location near Waimanopur for about a mile.
On the other hand, Air1 conducted an aerial evaluation.
The hiker had an ankle injury and was unable to walk.
Firefighters airlifted him to the landing zone.They transferred his care to emergency medical services at 2:41 pm
After sliding down the buttock hill, EMS personnel treated the hiker with an injured left ankle and took him to the hospital in a stable condition.
Firefighters escorted an injured male hiking companion from the trail.
