North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina (WBTW) — A family member was thrown an egg while riding a golf cart at North Myrtle Beach while a family member visited the town and police were investigating the case.

Misty and Sean Petrus came to town from Inman for their son’s baseball tournament late Friday and intended to spend family time here until mid-week, but left early for trials.

On Sunday, the family rode a golf cart on 20th Avenue North and threw group eggs in a silver or gray SUV.

Sean Petrus saw something white flying at him as the car approached from the corner of his eyes, but by the time he could raise his arms in front of his face, he Said he had already been struck. Sean Petrus said his son screamed.

“My first instinct was that we were shot,” said Sean Petrus. “I looked back at him, and all I could see was blood and this white and yellow that ran down the sides of his face.”

Sean Petrus then said he saw blood on the side of his hand, and when he looked down he noticed it was an egg. He said there were about four or five eggs thrown from the car.

Misty Petrus said it took a while for her to process that she wasn’t shot because the egg made a fast popping sound, coupled with blood and her son’s screams.

“I honestly thought both were shot in the face,” said Misty Petrus.

“We pay attention to our own business, just go down the road and be attacked by eggs,” said Sean Petrus.

Misty and Sean Petrus said egg shells lined up on both sides of the road for the next two blocks, police reports from North Myrtle Beach Police.

Misty Petrus said he wanted to share his experience as someone stepped forward and said something or parents checked their children’s cars.

“Stop, we’re just trying to have a good time. There are many ways to have a good time,” said Misty Petrus. “There’s a lot to do on the beach to have a good time, rather than physically damaging people.”

“It’s just a timid act,” said Sean Petrus.

“I just want them to get out of the street before someone gets seriously injured, and this is more than just a crime of assault,” said Misty Petrus.

Police said the vehicle was finally seen heading east towards Ocean Boulevard. The case is under investigation.
